Starting and stopping a CIUMon service with CIUWatcher

Starting and stopping a CIUMon service with CIUWatcher

CIUWatcher can allow non-administrator users to stop and start CIUMon.

To allow non-administrator users to stop and start CIUMon, CIUWatcher looks for the existence of some file. When this file is deleted or moved, CIUMon is stopped. When this file is created or replaced in its original location, CIUMon is started again. By setting CIUWatcher to look for a file that any user can create or delete, you can allow any user to stop and start CIUMon.

To allow non-administrator users to stop and start CIUMon

  1. Decide where you will put the file that CIUWatcher will look for. Make sure that it can be moved or deleted and created by the users you would like to be able to stop and start CIUMon, and not by other users. Create the file.
  2. Start CIUMon.
  3. On the Options menu, click Services.
  4. In the Current CIUMon Services list, click the service you would like other users to be able to stop and start.
  5. Select Run the service only when this file exists.
  6. Enter the location of the file for CIUWatcher to look for in the box below.
  7. Click Apply Changes. Click Close.
